Our attendees from our latest training were refugees and German neighbors living in Wittenau where the workshop was held. We are very grateful for the support we have received from BENN Wittenau and Albatros GmbH to create these series of workshops.
The evening’s topics were touching upon the benefits of using open-ended questions, by encouraging participants to explore each other’s childhood memories. We followed that exercise up with a lesson on paraphrasing. Paraphrasing is a communication strategy that is used with the intention to change a negatively charged expression into a more optimistic one.
Seen below: the participants are doing the paraphrasing exercise.
We further talked about power and conflict. It was really impactful to hear our participants during a round-table discussion talking about their experiences.
The evening was wrapped up by challenging our participants to use the newly learned approaches in a role-play exercise involving a conflict between two people and a mediator.
